25 Reasons to Shop Online on Black Friday

Black Friday and Shopping Online

Are you considering going out to big retail stores to find great deals on Black Friday? There are many reasons to avoid the buildings full of shoppers this holiday season. From safety to convenience, here’s a list of 25 reasons why you should turn on your computer instead of your car on Black Friday.

If you’re going out...

25. You need lots of sleep. This requires you to go to bed really early and miss out on time with your family on Thanksgiving.

24. There may not be a parking space. You’ll be surprised how quickly a parking lot can fill up.

23. It will probably be cold. Your body can get exhausted just trying to stay warm if you’re standing outside at 2 A.M.

22. You could loose your place in line. Pray you don’t have to visit the bathroom, most people won’t let you back in line.

Black Friday Reasons
21. There will be huge crowds. Some WalMarts report having up to 2,000 customers waiting outside before the stores even open.

20. There is never enough of the front page products. Some stores only receive 10 - 50 of the item that is advertised to the front page.

19. You are highly likely to get hurt. While you probably won’t end up like the WalMart employee who was trampled to death in 2008, you will probably get elbowed, pushed, and bitten. People can be more like animals then humans. Everyone is out for that good deal and when they don’t get it, they’ll show their ugly side.

18. Your kids can’t come with you. While we’d love to teach our children how rewarding it is to search, buy, and give a gift to others, this ravage environment isn’t really safe for the family, physically or mentally.

17. The lines are LONG. You could wait for as long as 4 hours to pay for your purchases.

16. It doesn’t always stay in your basket. Yes, people do steal stuff from shopping carts.

15. You’ll be hungry. Even those who pack a snack don’t get enough nutrition to last them the whole shopping experience. Fast food restaurants and food courts have lines as long as Walmart on Black Friday.

If you’re staying in...

14. You can shop in your pajamas online.

13. You can shop while sitting in your bed online.

12. Most companies have the same deals online starting at 12 am.

11. You can compare prices online.

10. Many places offer free shipping on Black Friday.

9. You won’t spend money on gas for your car when you shop online.

8. You can look up reviews while online to make sure you’re buying a good product.

7. You and your friends can tag-team in the same room without using cell phones.

6. You’re more likely to find the stuff you want because it’s easier to look up an item online then it is to run throughout a store.

5. You’re likely to score more of the items on your because you’re not wasting time running from store to store.

4. It’s easier to stick to your budget when shopping online because you won’t pick up loads of other “fantastic” deals while trying to find the one you’re looking for.

3. Your children are safe.

2. You don’t have to hire a babysitter.

1. You won’t have a million plastic grocery bags to deal with.

I like comparing prices online. I can usually find bargains easier that way instead of having to go out in the cold and waste gas and it is just a less stressful way to shop.

I like shopping online because my husband isn't there to ask "honey do we really need to get that" and you feel guilty so you put it back and then find yes you did really need it.

So I shop on line while he sleeps, then when the packages arrive surprise honey look what I bought.

For me the thought of bodily harm keeps me from going. I went about six years ago and had a lady turn around and shove my cart into me because she missed out on some deal. That type of attitude does not put me in the spirit of things if you know what I mean!

I had planned to do online, it is more fun and exciting as more companies realize the value in those of us that do not want the in store drama. I haven't done black Friday since 2001 due to work obligations I always had to work, in the last year I have a different job and am off the day after but in those years when I was a hospital employee, you guessed it, I became a mom of two lovely human beings. :) So I'll enjoy our time together and we can laugh at the news that shows how ugly people can be over something that will be ignored most likely in a few months. Woo HOO online shopping. :) The deals have been so great online I started weeks ago. Pretty soon it will just like e-filing those of us in our PJ's will be the norm and the in store wait 5 days to get in shoppers will be the exception. :)

tiffany gionson November 26th, 2010 3:41 pm ET
my husband and i went out for black friday and yeah it was cold and we waiting in line for 2 hours but it was worth it for the deals we got and it was fun.

amy November 24th, 2011 10:10 pm ET
soo true! Add Cashback from ebates & shopathome to the main reason I am shopping online : )

Sunni November 24th, 2011 10:28 pm ET
I agree. I was once an assistant manager years ago for McCrory Corporation in Holbrook NY. Back in 1983 on black friday it was advertised that each store would have "CABBAGE PATCH KID DOLLS" .
Well each store got exactly 12! No more, no less.
I got there at 5am and the store didn't open till 6 am. My boss John gave out the 12 tickets. But when the doors opened it was like a 3 ring circus. Keep in mind "John" was over 6 ft 3in tall and weighed in at 250lbs of muscle. I was 5 ft 2in tall and sopping wet weighed in at 86 lbs (if that , I wore Little girls size 14 clothing at that time and business suits were a zero. But that was b4 children..Now at a much healthier weight). Anyway. He sent me to the back to give out the 12 dolls. I ended up literally tossing the dolls across the store to anyone who could catch them. I got socked in the jaw and taken to the hospital. Thankfully NOTHING was broken. This was b4 the time of the internet and shopping online. But that day forward I vowed if I got married (i did), and had children (i do) I would NEVER EVER go to a Black Friday Event. I did do it once, the year the PS2 came out. I had a friend wait in line w/ me at Walmart and we each got one.He got one to give to my daughter and I got one for my son. but it was civil for that. They handed out numbers and we waited at the back of the store, playing cards on the floor. Then the mcdonalds cart came along and they gave us all free coffee. It was the only time I went and now in the day of the internet your reasons to stay at home brought this memory back as vivid as it was when it happened in 1983 (28 yrs ago).
I stay home, in pj's , Have several pages open and comparison shop the deals till they go live then I'm ready to pounce. I buy for my grandson and I'm usually all done by now .I still have one gift I need to get him, one for my son in law and I'm done! My daughter and son in law are getting their Keurig (courtesy of Ebay - couldn't resist the B70 for only $121 plus shipping making it $137 and that's way less then any Black Friday Sale..and it's new w/ the Kcup sampler). My daughter is getting a digital camera courtesy of 1sale a day (ok so it's a company refurbished one but it's normally $170 new and it was only $35), my grandson is set on tons of mega block toys and a wonderful kid's drum set . All courtesy of Amazon.com. And best of all? ?That drum set was up on Ebay for over $90 plus shipping, My price? $38 w/ shipping.
I priced not only Ebay and Amazon but went through virtually EVERY Black Friday advertisement to make SURE I was getting the best price. I got myself an early Christmas present. I got myself a Keurig B60 on Kohl's during a big sale for $109 shipped! A fantastic bargain. Brand new w/ the Kcups. The only thing they don't tell you is that if you ever use any milk based kcup (like hot cocoa or cappaccino) you NEED to do a quick clean out. (Just run hot water on the 8 oz setting and toss). And to clean the needles on top and bottom with a stainless steel paperclip. but customer service was fanatastic and are sending me a coupon for 2 free boxes of my choice on Kcups and registered my machine online. So YES I believe I'll NEVER set foot inside a store during a Black Friday sale again.

Yeah, I'm not an in-store black friday shop person..

I hate the traffic, waiting in line in the cold, and 'cuz U drink hot chocolate/coffee/tea to keep warm, U gotta go pee!!,... then U have the LONGEST CHECKOUT lines ever imaginable!! I dread that so much....

So, now.... I sit in my warm compfy jammies, have my hot tea, my shopping list & budget in hand.....

And browse, and click away on the keyboard, and hum to myself with the radio on softly in the background.... LIFE IS GOOD! :-) Hugs to everyone, and be safe!
